The World Championships of Performing Arts 2006


135 Contestants represents South Africa at the world Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles from August 1 – August 14, 2006, in the Hollywood Palledanium.

These contestants arrived back in South Africa on Wednesday, August 16, 2006. Team South Africa won the World Cup for the 9th consecutive year. They also won the Trophy for the largest delegation.

43 Countries were represented and over 4850 items were performed. The World Championships of Performing Arts often called the Olympics for Performing Arts creates an exciting career-launching opportunity for performers from across the globe. The New York Film & Television School has awarded over $85,000-00 US Dollars' scholarships. 5 Contestants from South Africa each received $4000-00 US Dollar Scholarship Awards from the school.

Robert Webb, a 7 year old actor,won the Junior Grand Champion Overall Award for Acting.

Chanri Hitge, the reigning Little Miss South Africa has won the Junior Grand Champion Overall Award for Modeling.

The SA Team has won 98 Gold Medals, 152 Silver Medals, 112 Bronze Medals, 8 Industrial Gold Medals, 44 Overall World Champion Awards and 2 Grand Champion Awards.

The talent of the contestants representing South Africa was phenomenal. We made our mark once again and we are very proud of Team South Africa 2006!

The World Championships of Performing Arts 2007 will take place from the 28th of July to the 5th of August in Los Angeles, California. Team South Africa will depart on the 22nd of July and return on the 7th of August, hopefully with the title of World Champion firmly under their belt!
